Eat Local : The Rustic Leaf Bistro - New Hampshire Food Photographer

In a small town like Amherst, NH, its not always easy to find a hidden dining gem, so allot of times I will venture out to Milford or Wilton or even over to Bedford in search of new and interesting cuisine. Luckily for me I have found just such a hidden gem in The Rustic Leaf Bistro in Milford, NH. I have passed by The Rustic Leaf Bistro numerous times on our way to the Milford Drive in (which we are counting down the days till they open, look for a blog on that this spring!). I am a big proponent of using local ingredients and supporting local farms and farmers, so one of the things that drew me to The Rustic Leaf Bistro was their heavy use of local ingredients from surrounding areas. Hey, the blog is called "Eat Local" for a reason you know? So for my first visit, I opted to stop in for lunch. The first thing you notice when you walk in is how bright it is. From the photos on the website I was not sure what to expect for lighting for the photos, but it has such great light, windows everywhere, and has a warm, inviting feeling to it that wraps you up once you walk in the door.

Powder Day - Crotched Mountain : NH Ski & Snowboard Photographer

Anyone that knows me, knows that once the temperature drops and the snow comes, my life centers around one thing...skiing. But not just any skiing, skiing at Crotched Mountain. Now, with all the ski mountains in New Hampshire, why is Crotched Mountain my favorite ski mountain, and the place I call home? It started about 3 years ago, when my son first started skiing lessons. As a divorced dad, my time with my children is far less than what I would want, so I always try to take every opportunity to be with my kids more, and when my son started his ski lessons as part of his school, so did I. At 37 years old, I decided to learn to ski. Crotched Mountain is where I learned, as that is where my son learned as well. From that first lesson learning to ski, Crotched Mountain become a special place to me, it taught me that no matter my age, I could take on new challenges, and do things I had never thought of trying before.

Eat Local : The Red Arrow Diner, Milford - NH Food Photographer

Milford, New Hampshire is like a second home to me.  My father was the town administrator for over 20 years, and my grandparents lived in Wilton, so we would drive through Milford every weekend.  The Milford oval is one of the last great small New Hampshire town centers. Along with downtown Wilton, both are still one of the few places in my world that remains as magical as when I was a kid.  But it wasn't until a little over a year ago that I found out about The Red Arrow Diner right off the Milford oval. Ever since then, I've been making it one of my top places to eat whenever I want to make some special memories with my kids.

We are no strangers to The Pasta Loft in Milford, NH.  Its actually to the point where they know our voice when we call to order our favorite "working late in studio" meal, the chicken broccoli Alfredo pizza with cheese bread.  With all the takeout we enjoy, we felt it was time for a change, and decided to swing in for an impromptu lunch.

Swan Chocolates Cupcakes : NH Food Photographer

Living on "the facebook" as I do from time to time, I kept seeing the Swan Chocolates facebook page announcing their new cupcakes, as well as their unique promotion, where by if you come in and say the word of the day from their facebook page, you get a free cupcake.  Well, being the frugal person that I am, how could I turn down such a special!?  Growing up in Merrimack, I remember the location that is now Swan Chocolates as an old convenience store and deli, and what memories it brings back when I walk in there.  Swan Chocolates has done such an amazing job with the decorations and feel of the shop inside, it is both casual and elegant, and hopefully on my next visit I will be able to sit down and spend a little time in the shop.
